Quedlinburg named 8th-most welcoming city on Earth

The German town of Quedlinburg, Saxony-Anhalt, has been named the eighth-most welcoming city in the world as part of the annual Traveller Review Awards.

Quedlinburgers are exceptionally friendly

Despite officially being a town, Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt has been named the eighth-most welcoming city on Earth by Booking.com, as part of its annual Traveller Review Awards.

To create its Traveller Review Awards, the international company used its collection of 240 million user reviews of 1,71 million hotels, holiday homes, rental cars and taxi services in 220 nations around the world. 

Alongside giving awards to individual hotels and resorts, the company also created a top 10 for cities which have the highest proportion of top-rated hotels, these were deemed to be the “most welcoming places”. 

Sigiriya in Sri Lanka, Cazorla in Spain and Urubici in Brazil took the gold, silver and bronze respectively, with Taupo, New Zealand and St. Augustine, United States rounding out the top five.

If you’ve never heard of Quedlingburg, you can imagine somewhere that someone who has never been to Germany might imagine when they are told to imagine a German town.

Some facts outlined by Booking.com’s description can add the details, “nestled in Germany's Harz Mountains”, “captivating medieval town steeped in history”, “UNESCO-listed old town”, “local markets, woody taverns serving regional delicacies”. 

Considering a weekend trip? Quedlinburg is a stone’s throw from Magdeburg, Halle (Salle), Leipzig, Hildesheim and Braunschweig. A “tranquil atmosphere perfect for exploration”, Bötel (pork knuckle) and Käsekuchen await you.
