Anyone planning a trip with Deutsche Bahn’s IC and ICE long-distance trains in June can take advantage of a series of discounts the company is offering. Here’s what you need to know:

DB announces ticket deals to attract more passengers

In an effort to increase passenger numbers, Deutsche Bahn has announced a series of ticket discounts that will be available to train passengers throughout June 2025. According to the rail operator, its services ran at an average capacity of 44 percent in the first four months of 2025, below the company’s 50 percent capacity target.

At the same time, in the first quarter of 2025, Deutsche Bahn passengers on long-distance trains travelled more collective kilometres than in any previous quarter. “People want to travel by train,” Deutsche Bahn marketing representative Stefanie Berk said in a press release. “With an ICE fleet of 410 trains, we have enough space to welcome many new passengers onboard.”

The discounts are targeted at specific passenger groups, including young people, retirees, commuters and short-distance travellers.

Deutsche Bahn discounts available in June 2025

Here’s a rundown of the different discounts which Deutsche Bahn will offer throughout June 2025:

  • For short-distance travellers: From June 15, the starting price for Super Sparpreis tickets for short-distance journeys (Kurzstrecken) will be lowered from 9,99 euros to 6,99 euros. Exactly what counts as a “Kurzstrecke” can vary, but journeys can include those between Munich and Augsburg, Cologne and Düsseldorf or Hamburg and Bremen.
  • For young travellers: To make transportation more affordable for young people, BahnCards for people under 27 years old will be discounted from June 15 until December 13. During this period, passengers under 27 can get a second-class BahnCard50 for 49,99 euros instead of 79,90 euros.
  • For senior citizens: Between June 1 and August 31, Deutsche Bahn will run the Seniors BahnCard Plus, valid for one year. For an additional charge, Seniors BahnCard Plus passengers will get free drinks in DB restaurant carriages, eight-day passes for the DB lounge and priority in DB travel centres.
  • For BahnCard holders: Until September 30, if a BahnCard 50 holder takes a passenger with them, both passengers get 50 percent off their tickets.
  • For commuters: Between June 15 and 28, commuters can get a 25 percent discount on their personal monthly ticket for long-distance trains.
  • For flexible travellers: From June 15 to July 31, you can save even more if you book in advance. During this period, “Flexpreis” bookings made more than 28 days ahead of departure will be discounted.
It will also be easier to cancel a “Flexpreis” ticket. Until now, Flexpreis ticket holders have only been able to receive a refund if they cancelled their journey at least eight days before departure. From June 15, Flexpreis passengers can receive a refund if they cancel their journey up to one day before departure.

Prospective passengers can head to the Deutsche Bahn website to find out more (in German).
