Get ready for some fun, educational and informative films for kids at this year’s Stuttgart Children’s Film Festival (Stuttgarter Kinderfilmtage). This year’s cinema event takes place at two venues in the city of Stuttgart.

Bringing the younger generation closer to the world of film

Stuttgart has always been in the centrefold when it comes to film, thanks to its many colourful film festivals and other events.

The Stuttgart Children’s Film Festival was launched in 1986 with the goal of introducing children’s films to the public, holding workshops for future filmmakers and educating the younger generation on how films are made and how cinema impacts our daily lives.

Who will be this year's Charly Prize winner?

The highlight of the event each year is the Children’s Jury prize called Charly, which sees children between the ages 10 and 13 join experienced filmmakers and experts and learn how to analyse, critique and judge children’s films.

Workshops, performances and more

While children aged three to five can experience the world of cinema through performances, art classes and live music and dance shows, the older kids can dig in a bit deeper. The festival will offer workshops where they can produce and direct their own animations, learn about issues such as copyrights and more practical information on film.

Children can also participate as “junior reporters”, joining screenings, media events and conducting radio and film interviews with the help and supervision of seasoned film journalists.

Attending the Stuttgart Children's Film Festival

All films are categorised by genre and age on the event’s website, so make sure to check before attending a screening. For film screenings, it is recommended to make a reservation, especially those in the competitive category.

For more information on the programme, screenings and events, including directions on how to get there via public transportation, visit the Stuttgart Children’s Film Festival website.
