Be momentarily transported back in time, to more than 500 years ago, and gain fascinating insights into the Aztec culture at this exciting new exhibition. Marking the 500th anniversary of the Spanish conqueror Hernán Cortés' landfall in the Gulf of Mexico, the new Aztecs exhibition at the Linden Museum in Stuttgart features three unique objects, never before shown in such a light.

Explore the Aztec culture in a new light

The Aztecs exhibition from the Baden-Württemberg State offers a new, in-depth view into the world of the Aztecs. Central to the exhibition are three special objects - two feather shields and a nephrite jade figurine - that have not been presented within the context of Aztec culture before.

These special figurines will be complemented by other rare and exquisite statues, objects and items on loan from Mexican and European institutions. The exhibition will also present the latest research regarding the Aztecs and the Templo Mayor, first discovered in 1978.

Understanding the Aztecs

The exhibition, which includes impressive stone figures, ceramic, mosaics, jewellery pieces and more, will offer visitors a detailed glimpse into Aztec art, lifestyle and culture. The vivid illustrations and colourful manuscripts permit a closer look at the subject.

What’s more, the exposition layout follows the complete journey Cortés took, from the peripheral provinces all the way to the sacred ceremonial precinct of the capital, Tenochtitlán, truly taking visitors on a trip through history.
