One of the most romantic Christmas markets in Germany

The scent of hot roasted almonds mulled wine and cinnamon fills the winding streets of the Old Town in Heidelberg as the Christmas Market takes over the quarter. Traditional and festively decorated wooden houses fill Bismarckplatz, Anatomiegarten, Universitätsplatz, Marktplatz and Kornmarkt, offering everything from Christmas baubles and decorations to hand-made crafts and German culinary specialities.

Over on the Kornmarkt, the Winter Woods (Winterwäldchen) offers visitors a magical, wintry paradise of peace that will rival any fairytale setting. The inner courtyard of the city’s castle, one of the many castles in Germany, acts as a picturesque backdrop for the Christmas market, where the Advent excursion is unforgettable. 

Underneath the castle, on Karlsplatz, one of most beautiful ice-skating rinks is set up, where visitors can listen to lively festive music and skate to their heart’s content in the lead-up to the national holiday.
