This year’s Karnival der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures) parade in Berlin will be run along a different route than normal, according to an announcement from event organisers.
In 2025, one of the highlights of Berlin’s eclectic calendar, Karnival der Kulturen will leave its home in Kreuzberg for a new location.
Instead of the carnival parade snaking around the Gneisenaustraße neighbourhood, Friedrichshain’s Frankfurter Allee Boulevard will play host on June 6. The parade will begin at Proskauer Straße and finish at Berolinastraße, near Alexanderplatz.
The traditional route in Kreuzberg has been ruled out due to construction works by Berlin's water authority.
Apart from the parade route change, other events connected to the festival, which runs between June 5 and 9, will be held in the standard Kreuzberg locations.
This year marks the 27th edition of the festival, which was inspired by similar events such as Notting Hill Carnival in London and Zomercarnaval in Rotterdam. In 2025, organisers expect to welcome around 500.000 revellers in Berlin.
