A new, immersive exhibition celebrating the works of US director Tim Burton has opened in Berlin, but has so far received disappointing reviews.
Beetlejuice, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Edward Scissorhands director Tim Burton is being celebrated with a new exhibition in Berlin.
Visitors to the immersive exhibition can expect atmospherically lit rooms, music, lasers, projections and around 200 yet-seen artworks by the director. Lights lead visitors from room to room in the labyrinth and each room centres around famous figures from Burton’s films, such as Jack Skellington of The Nightmare Before Christmas or Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts.
In a disappointing review of the “Experience”, Berliner Zeitung critic Kevin Gensheimer wrote of the exhibition: “Every figure is unique, but in general they somehow all look the same. Some have long legs and a large head and others have a large head and long legs”.
But the bar of Tim Burton disappointments has been set high, after the disastrous "Willy's Chocolate Experience" in Glasgow made international headlines in February 2024, leaving children in tears and inspiring an hour-long documentary, Wonka: The Scandal that Rocked Britain.
Having opened on July 19, the event will run until November 3, 2024. Visitors can expect the “Experience” to take around 30 minutes.
Regular tickets will cost fans between 23 and 26 euros and reduced tickets for children under 14 years old, between 19 and 22 euros.
