Ver.di announces imminent transport strike across NRW

Feb 14, 2024

German trade union ver.di has announced that public transport staff in North Rhine-Westphalia will carry out a one-day warning strike (Warnstreik) on February 15, 2024. Here’s which services will be affected:

Transport strike announced for North Rhine-Westphalia

Local public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia will be brought to a standstill on February 15, as transport employees go on strike. Between 10.000 and 15.000 staff from around 30 transport associations operating in the German state are expected to strike.

This includes buses, trams and U-Bahn trains in Düsseldorf, Wuppertal, Cologne, Bonn, Dortmund and Essen, among other cities and towns. You can find a full list of affected services here.

What is ver.di demanding for transport staff in NRW?

After the first round of negotiations proved unfruitful, ver.di announced the Warnstreik ahead of another round of negotiations with transport companies, scheduled to take place in Bochum on February 22.

The union is currently negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement with local transport companies, as is the case with many industries that are currently striking in Germany. Among other things, ver.di is demanding that employees get to start and end their day at the same location alongside a bonus for team leaders, better annual leave conditions and higher pay.
