The dreamy combination of a public holiday and summer weather is just around the corner. Here’s what we have to look forward to this Pentecost (Pfingsten) weekend:

German weather to warm up this week

In the week leading up to Whit Sunday and Whit Monday, both of which are public holidays in Germany, the weather is set to warm up.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), on Wednesday, temperatures will rise to between 18 and 21 degrees celsius across most German cities, but it will be rainy and cloudy.

The clouds will largely clear from Thursday, when intermittent sunshine is forecast across the country, with highs of 24 degrees expected in Cologne and Frankfurt, 23 degrees in Saarbrücken, and 22 degrees in Berlin, Stuttgart and Nuremberg.

Things will really start to feel summery from Friday afternoon, with highs of 28 degrees forecast in Cologne and Frankfurt, 27 degrees in Saarbrücken and Nuremberg, 26 degrees in Stuttgart and Hanover and 25 degrees across Munich, Konstanz, Leipzig, Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen.

32 degrees in the southwest on Saturday

Finally, the real heat will kick in on Saturday and Sunday. While northern parts of the country will see sun and temperatures between 24 and 28 degrees, the southwest will see highs of between 28 and 32 degrees.

Those in the southwest may see their first summer storm during the night from Saturday to Sunday. When the clouds clear, sun and highs of between 24 and 30 degrees are expected.

Whit Monday (Pfingstmontag) is expected to be sunny and dry across the country, with 28 degrees forecast for Munich and Cologne, 27 degrees for Berlin and 24 degrees forecast for Hamburg.
