Germany will see mild, sunny weather this weekend, and also mark the beginning of pollen season. Handkerchiefs and antihistamines at the ready!

The prolonged Pollenpause is over

It feels like just yesterday we were penguin-walking on death-trap slippery streets, and all of a sudden, the sunshine and pollen are here.

“The pollen break was very long, but nature can no longer contain itself,” Matthias Werchan of the German Pollen Information Service Foundation told the dpa. Continuous frost, snow and rain kept pollen at bay longer than usual.

“It is now expected that the hazel pollen will be in full swing.” In Berlin, alder pollen is also expected to appear. Werchan advises allergy sufferers to follow the Pollen Information Service’s weekly forecasts, which are more precise than the general pollen calendar.

Highs of 21C expected in Germany this weekend

This weekend also marks the first spring-like weather, with highs of 21 degrees celsius forecast for Stuttgart, 20 degrees in Frankfurt, Cologne and Leipzig, and 19 degrees in Saarbrücken, Nuremberg and Hanover.

Berlin, Munich, Bremen, Hamburg and Dresden will see milder, but still warm, temperatures between 17 and 18 degrees. Get outside and enjoy it while it lasts! Germany is known for its “false springs”, a short burst of warmer, sunny weather, followed by rain, until the real spring begins.
