Principal Enterprise Automation Engineer - Logistics Development (all genders)

Role: Principal Enterprise Automation Engineer in the Logistics Development team. Serves as the technical visionary and lead builder for logistics automation, designing macro‑architecture for AI‑orchestrated processes across Zalando’s European fulfillment network. Responsibilities: - Architect and execute scalable automation solutions, developing production‑ready code for critical logistics bottlenecks. - Drive the dual‑engine strategy: rapid Volume Engine automations for quick ROI and deep Impact Engine projects for AI‑native process redesign. - Exercise elite tool judgment, selecting and integrating enterprise tools such as UiPath, n8n, Python, and APIs. - Integrate Agentic AI (LLMs) via prompt engineering to handle complex, unstructured data. - Mentor senior automation engineers, breaking down complex blueprints and providing code review and technical guidance. - Bridge data gaps by designing secure API architectures linking legacy systems (e.g., SAP) with modern AI orchestration tools. - Execute with agility in 2‑to‑3‑week sprint cycles, collaborating with central tech teams and operational SMEs while navigating compliance constraints. Qualifications: - 10+ years hands‑on experience in business process automation and AI integration. - Elite tool judgment and deep architectural design experience with UiPath, n8n, Python, and enterprise APIs. - Proven expertise in Agentic AI architectures, prompt engineering, and safe LLM integration in live operations. - Ability to redesign processes for AI‑native automation, balancing volume‑focused and impact‑focused solutions. - Strong skills in designing for scale, maintainability, and robust error‑handling frameworks (self‑healing workflows). - Technical leadership capabilities with a passion for mentoring senior developers and orchestrating high‑velocity Agile sprints. - Hands‑on experience with intelligent document processing, process mining/task mining, and extracting structured data from unstructured sources. - Excellent communication and stakeholder management, able to convey complex AI architectures and compliance risks to non‑technical audiences.
