-21,7C recorded in Germany, DWD issues frost warning

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a frost warning after temperatures sank to as low as -21,7 degrees celsius on the night between January 5 and 6.
Cold snap continues across Germany
The DWD has issued a level two warning for frost across parts of southern and eastern Germany, including Munich, Dresden, regions just south of Stuttgart and southern Brandenburg.
According to the weather service, frost damage is possible, and residents should avoid spending long periods of time outside. Pedestrians and cyclists who brave the weather should make sure to wrap up warm.
Initially, lows of between -1 and -10 degrees were forecast for Monday night, with -17 degrees forecast for some southeastern regions. But meteorologists at wetter.de recorded much lower temperatures, including -21,7 degrees in Oberstdorf, Allgäu. Temperatures between -15 and -19 degrees were recorded in the Harz Mountains, Black Forest and Swabian Alps.
Winter weather will warm up by Thursday
Minus temperatures are expected to persist into Wednesday. Lows of -5 degrees are forecast in Baden-Württemberg, -3 degrees in Munich and Dresden and -2 degrees in Berlin. Locals in Cologne, Hanover and Bremen can expect lows of 0 degrees.
There will be some respite from Thursday, when temperatures remain at -6 degrees in the Brocken Mountains, but warm to somewhere between 0 and 3 degrees across much of the country.
