The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a level two storm warning for much of northern Germany. But hot summer weather will return across the country on Friday.
Level two storm warning issued for northern Germany
The coming 24 hours are set to be rainy, stormy and windy in northern Germany. The DWD has issued a level one weather warning for Berlin and most of Brandenburg.
A level two warning has been issued for much of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Thuringia, Bremen and parts of Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Finally, a level three warning has been added for a small area on the North and Baltic Sea coastline, including a warning in Kiel for a region in the Harz mountains.
100km/h winds forecast, but summer to return
In uncovered areas, Berliners can expect winds of up to 85 kilometres per hour on Tuesday. Those further north and on the coast should prepare for even more relentless winds, reaching up to 100 km/h.
Winds along the coast will slow to 85km/h as the evening arrives. The DWD has warned residents to secure garden furniture and be cautious of falling tree branches.
After the wind has passed, summer will have a brief reprise across Germany this weekend. Temperatures will start to rise on Thursday evening, with warmth and sunshine forecast for Friday.
The DWD has forecast 26 degrees celsius in Berlin, 27 degrees in Dresden and Leipzig, 28 degrees in Cologne, Frankfurt and Nuremberg and 27 degrees in Munich and Stuttgart.
