Three German supermarkets have recalled a brand of baked sunflower seed treats after batches were contaminated with metal. Around 300 shops are thought to be affected across Europe.

Lackmann recalls sunflower seed treats in Germany

Three German supermarkets have recalled a range of “Süßware aus Sonnenblumenkernen”(sunflower seed confectionery) from the company Lackmann Fleisch- und Feinkostfabrik GmbH, after metal was found in packages of the sunflower seed sweets.

Only REWE, Aldi and Lidl stock the sweets in question, but according to lebensmittelwarnung.de, branches of these three supermarkets are affected across 13 of Germany’s 16 federal states, including Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rheinland-Palatinate, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.

What should you do if you have purchased the Lackmann sweets?

Lackmann found batches of sweets to contain “metal foreign objects” that could injure consumers or cause choking. As such, lebensmittelwarnung.de encourages customers to take the product recall seriously.

Bavarian newspaper Merkur has reported that around 300 supermarkets across Europe stock the potentially contaminated sunflower seed sweets. Any customers who have the product at home are warned against consuming the sweets and encouraged to return them to the shop where they were purchased.

Customers who bought a box of the sweets from the contaminated batch will be able to claim a refund, even if they cannot show their receipt.
