DWD issues level three ice warning
As of 09.04am on January 12 the DWD has issued a level three weather warning for black ice and frost across Bavaria, Baden-Wüttemberg, Hesse, western Thuringia, Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.
Germany has now had over a week of temperatures well below freezing, as warmer weather returns, snow and ice is melting in most western federal states, bringing slippery conditions for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
The DWD also warned of stormy gusts in the Harz Mountains, along the North Sea coastline and in central regions. On Monday, light snowfall will persist across regions east of Bremen, Hanover and Munich.
Weather will warm up from Tuesday
In eastern cities, temperatures will remain below freezing until Tuesday afternoon, when Berlin will warm to 3 degrees celsius, Dresden to 4 degrees and Hamburg, Bremen and Leipzig to 5 degrees.
Milder temperatures and intermittent sunshine will continue on Wednesday and Thursday. On Tuesday, temperatures will reach as high as 11 degrees in Stuttgart, and 8 degrees in Munich and Cologne.
By Wednesday warmer temperatures will be felt in the eastern federal states too, with 8 degrees forecast for Leipzig, 7 degrees for Hanover and Bremen and 6 degrees for Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg and Rostock.
