Berlin Fairy Tale Days celebrates its 31st edition in 2020 with storytelling, online multimedia activities, an awards ceremony, a writing competition and so many other events for kids that are out of this world.

Fairy tales go digital

A lot of the originally planned Berlin Fairy Tale Days activities have been put to one side due to the coronavirus pandemic, but a lot of great parts of the event will still go ahead online and in person, at a safe distance! Despite the pandemic, the organisational team was still proud to be able to put together over 400 events for this year’s festival.

A celebration of fairy tales

Fairy tales give hope! There’s so much uncertainty in 2020, to say the least, but in fairy tales, the good guys always win, so this is a guaranteed way to lift spirits of children of all ages – and perhaps parents, too!

This year's Berlin Fairy Tale Days are focusing on the theme of “Heaven & Earth - moving above and below.” There are tales involving moving towards the sun in fun and interesting forms - whether as an astronaut, witch or on the back of a wild goose. On the other hand, stories of the underworld will feature equally as prominent.

Libraries, bookshops, schools, concert halls, theatres, public administrations and embassies in Berlin open their doors on the occasion of the Berlin Fairy Tale Days, though this year public safety is of high importance and there are many limits in place.

Highlights of Berlin Fairy Tale Days

The highlight of the festival is the award ceremony for the golden pea. There’s even an online writing competition for children aged 10 – 18. So get writing instead of twiddling your thumbs with boredom.

Attend Berlin Fairy Tale Days

Most of the events of the Berlin Fairy Tale Days are free to attend. There is a rich online programme for this year's Berlin Fairy Tale Days, which you can discover by browsing the Berlin Fairy Tale Days website (in German).
